Early Intervention is a family-centered public program for children 0-3 years of

age who have or are suspected of having developmental delays. The goal of the Early Intervention Program is to support families in helping their children learn and develop.

Who is eligible for services?

All children, birth to three years of age, who have or are subjected of having a developmental delay and/or disability can be referred to Early Intervention Program.

Referred children are entitled to a screening and/or evaluation. The evaluation will find the level of any delays and if a child is eligible for services.

Eligibility for the EIP can be determined only by evaluators approved by the NYS Department of Health. If a child is found eligible for the EIP, all services are identified in collaboration with the family and must be authorized by the county.

Call the City Help Line at 311 for information about Early Intervention or to refer a child.

What is the Cost?

All services under the EIP are provided at no direct cost to families, but health insurance may be accessed, without affecting your family’s benefits
